Accepted Answer

No experience is needed. Vikingball is a brand-new sport, so most players are learning together. Practices and instructions are included to help everyone understand the rules, positioning, and gameplay.

Question 14

Accepted Answer

Fast-paced, strategy-driven team play Target-ball scoring by knocking the ball off the cone Zone-based possession and passing rules Instant turnovers that keep the action moving

Question 15

How is Vikingball different from handball or soccer?

Accepted Answer

Vikingball borrows the throw-and-pass flow of handball but uses a basketball, a cone target, zone-based possession rules, and instant turnovers on out-of-bounds. Unlike soccer, you score by knocking the ball off the cone — not by kicking into a net — and the pace is built around fast change-of-possession transitions.

Question 16

Is Vikingball beginner-friendly or competitive?

Accepted Answer

Both. Vikingball is beginner-friendly because everyone is learning a new sport together, but games are still competitive, fast-paced, and team-based once the season starts.

Question 17

How physical is Vikingball?

Accepted Answer

Vikingball is competitive and fast-paced, but it is not a full-contact sport. Basketball-style defense, blocking, and interceptions are allowed, but pushing, charging, tackling, diving into players, ripping, or hitting the ball out of someone's hands is not allowed.

Question 20

Accepted Answer

Yes. Vikingball is coed and open to adult players 18+.

No. Vikingball is active and fast-paced, but players of different fitness levels can participate. Teams can use substitutions, and Try-It-Out Nights help players get comfortable with the pace of the game.

Question 22

How do you score?

Accepted Answer

You score by knocking the basketball off the cone. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins. Only one bounce is allowed before hitting the target — double bounces do NOT count.

Question 23

How long is a game?

Accepted Answer

Two 15-minute halves Halftime break in between The clock only stops for: Goals Ball out of play Penalties or injuries

Question 24

What happens if the ball goes out of play?

Accepted Answer

Possession automatically changes. Where play resumes depends on where the ball went out: Offensive zone: offensive team must retreat to the neutral zone or their own defensive zone. Defending team gains possession and resumes play from the ref's spot. Your own zone: the other team gets the ball at midfield and you must stay in your zone. Neutral zone: the other team gets the ball at the spot and you must retreat to your zone. Behind the goal: offense starts behind the goal, defense stays neutral or on their side.

Question 25

What is "change of possession"?

Accepted Answer

Change of possession is instant and spontaneous unless the referee stops play. Understanding and reacting quickly to this rule is key to gaining a competitive edge.

Question 26

What happens if the game is tied?

Accepted Answer

The game goes to a best-of-5 shootout If still tied after the best-of-5, it moves to sudden death — like hockey, if one team scores and the other doesn't, the game is over

Question 27

What are the shootout rules?

Accepted Answer

There are 2 shooters going at the same time The shooters have 5 seconds to take their shot If they fail to shoot in time, the attempt results in no goal
